Beginning of January....

We were really excited for the New Year, however, it did not start out great! Three days of the boys ended up getting sick from Kade being sick. At least they felt better before school started. However, about two weeks later we had a scary experience. The boys and I were at home and just finished eating. We were watching a little bit of T.V. when I received a phone call from Eric. But the person on the other line wasn't Eric. It was his co-worker Cynthia.

Cynthia ended up telling me that Eric was on his way to the emergency room. As soon she told me that I knew I needed to find somebody to watch the boys so I could head over to the hospital. Cynthia kindly told me that a company car would pick me up. I called my wonderful friend Jen. As soon as I told her Eric was headed to the emergency room she asked me what I needed her to do and if I needed her to watch the boys. I am so grateful for amazing friends like her. Cam was funny. When I told the boys they needed to go over to their place Cam was super excited. After I told Kyle why he needed to go over he knew something might be wrong. Kade was over at his friends house so I had to call him to let him know when he came home to head over to Jen's apartment.

After Jen picked up the boys Cynthia came in the van to take me to the hospital. I was already trying really hard not to cry. I knew I needed two things, a translator and the priesthood. We were really getting to know one of the missionaries. I knew they could provide both translation and the priesthood so I texted them to see if they could meet me over there. Luckily, and coincidentally, they were really close by, so they let me know they would head over.

When I arrived one of Eric's other co-workers was there and also a younger guy acting as the translator. Eric was behind the curtains so I couldn't let him know I was there right away. The doctor explained to me what was going on and what they needed to do. She spoke really good English. After speaking to her I was finally able to see Eric. He was really white and wasn't saying anything that made sense. He needed to have a CT scan done. I received a text from the missionaries letting me know they were there. After they came I thanked all of Eric's co-workers and let them know they could go home since Elder Ng and his companions was there. After that we went back in to see how Eric was doing. Before the nurses wheeled Eric to the scanning room Elder Ng and his companion gave him a priesthood blessing. In it he said that everything would work out and be ok because Eric's work here on Earth is not yet done. Right after he said that I felt peace and comfort come into my mind and heart. I knew and had faith that everything would work out and he would be ok.

It started getting late so Jen let me know the boys could sleep over at their apartment. Because of Jen and her family taking care of the boys I knew I didn't need to worry about them being safe. I knew they were in good hands. Now if only they could've gone to sleep when they were asked to. ;) The next morning Kade had an overnight field trip to Ocean Park in Hong Kong. He told Jen that if Eric wasn't doing better he didn't want to go. I told him daddy would be OK and that he should go. Very thoughtful of Kade to think that.

Elder and Sister Holbrook also came to the hospital. They live very close by the hospital. Elder Ng and his companion stayed with me until Eric was in the "waiting" room. Once he was there they left. Elder and Sister Holbrook stayed with me the rest of the night. Elder Ma also came to check on him. When Elder Ma was in there Eric was saying some of the craziest things. At first it was kind of funny, but then I knew something was wrong and he wasn't in his right mind. After Elder Ma left we waited for the results. All of them came back negative. Nothing seemed to be wrong. The doctor couldn't figure out what had happened. The doctor wanted to keep him overnight, but there was no way he was going to stay. Elder and Sister Holbrook knew there was no way I was going to be able to keep him there. So we said goodbye and found a taxi to head home.

Eric did stay home the next couple of days. Even when he did go back to work his mind was still a little foggy. He rested more on the weekend and felt much better heading to work on Monday. To this day we don't know why this occurred. He has been his normal self ever since he fully recovered. Right now I know it is because the power of the priesthood and Heavenly Father's will that he is ok. Many professionals I have talked to think he had a mini stroke. I hope it wasn't that. I don't know what the future holds, but what I do know is that I am incredibly grateful for these young 18 and 19 year old kids and senior missionary couples who give part of their life to serve our Savior and the people. I am grateful to know that the power of the priesthood was restored through Joseph Smith. I am also grateful for the knowledge that because Eric and I have been sealed in the temple that, regardless of what happens in this life, if we live worthily we will be able to be together for forever. I can't imagine forever without him and our four monkeys being there with us.

Jen and family, Elder Ng, Elder Ma, Elder and Sister Holbrrok....thank you for everything! I (we) could not have gone through this trial without your help and support. To family and friends who are far away, thank you also for your support and prayers.

In the morning I picked up the boys from Jen and was able to make sure Kade was ready for his field trip and the other three were ready for school. I couldn't have asked for a better friend here in Macau. Look for the next post about Kade's field trip to Ocean Park and Cam's field trip to the Panda Park.
